There Elijah was brought to the attention of Gary Scalzo, who signed him. Scalzo would later say, "It was only a few days before his eighth birthday when I saw him perform his monologue. It was evident that Elijah was talented and enjoyed what he was doing, which is important. After the competition I talked to his mother and asked if Elijah would like to come to my office with her the next day and talk about the possibilities of an acting career. Elijah and I read some scenes together and he was wonderful. He read brilliantly. He's also very directable."
But, Elijah's father did not come with them. "I am sure there will be issues at some point, whether or not I will want to contact him. But at the moment there is nothing. My mom so overcompnsated for the loss of a father." By his own words, Elijah feels close to his mother and siblings. "Family is so important. I rarely meet families who are as close as we are. I feel really blessed." He has a older brother Zachariah and younger sister Hennah.
So, with that Elijah's carrer was started. Six weeks later Elijah had a job in Paula Abdul's "Forever Your Girl" music video. From then on he gained a few small roles in "Internal Affairs" and "Back to the Future 2." But Elijah's big break was in the 1990 release of "Avalon."
Scalzo says, "Elijah's personality is just right for the screen. When he walks in, the whole room lights up." The rest is history, as they say. Check out the film section to see what movies Elijah's starred in.
Random Elijah Facts!
* Elijah smokes! (Not only does he smoke, but he smokes CLOVES! Those yummy babys are more deadly than cigarettes.)

Elijah Jordan Wood was born January 28th, 1981 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Deborah and Warren Wood. His childhood passed very normal, but energetic. In 1987 he was in the chorus for "The Sound of Music" at his elementary school. The next year Elijah played a main role in "Hooray for Hollywood's" production of the Wizard of Oz. Elijah was also a choir boy in "See How They Run". At the age of seven he was enrolled in Avant Studios for modeling, by his mother. Half a year later he and his mother traveled to the International Modeling and Talent Association convention in L.A.
Elijah himself says of the time, "When my mom brought me to Hollywood for the convention, I didn't think of acting because I was just a model. But when Gary asked me if I wanted to be an actor, I said, 'Yeah, sure. I'll be an actor.' Gary was one of the judges in the talent auditions and my mom said it was OK with her. He said, 'I believe in you' and asked my mom if we could move out." One month later, the Wood family relocated to L.A.
